VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)

VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean):  VBAC refers to the delivery of a baby vaginally after the mother has previously delivered a baby by cesarean section.  During a cesarean section delivery, an incision is made in the uterus to remove the baby.  That incision is sutured and heals but leaves a scar. The scarred uterus is weaker than an unscarred uterus and has a greater risk of uterine rupture in a later delivery.  Uterine rupture can be catastrophic to the mother and the baby.  Some doctors use the drug, Cytotec, in an “off-label” use as part of labor induction. Cytotec should not be used in VBAC mothers because of the increased risk of uterine rupture.

When a child has suffered an injury related to prenatal care, labor or delivery, it is understandable for the parents to have questions about the injury, their legal rights and the legal rights of the child.  We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about what has happened to your child and about your legal rights.  Consultations are free – there is no obligation to call and talk with one of our attorneys.  Contact Us if we can help you.
